The Board of Directors of the Canadian Amateur Sport Society, organizers of the Canada Cup International Softball Championship, today formally announced plans to stage the world-renowned tournament in 2022.
The decision to return to play comes after a two-year hiatus as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, as much of the world begins the gradual transition back to larger scale events, it means a return of the Canada Cup – June 17-26, 2022.
“The absence of the Canada Cup the past two years has been terribly disappointing,” said Board Chair Greg Timm. “But we have an incredible base of support and will be working hard over the coming months to ignite that energy and commitment, so when we welcome the world next summer, we can recapture the magic that is synonymous with the Canada Cup.”
“We are especially excited for the young athletes who count on this event as a marquee showcase tournament,” continued Timm. “The Canada Cup has led to hundreds of scholarships from academic institutions across North America, so from that perspective the tournament has been life-altering for so many young women.”
The Canada Cup tournament historically showcases some of the best female athletes from across Canada and the world, hosting upwards of 1,500 athletes over the course of two weeks at Softball City in Surrey.
Timm concluded by thanking those that have supported the Canada Cup during these uncertain times including the Organizing Committee and volunteer group, sport partners (Softball Canada and Softball BC), event sponsors, vendors, softball organizations around the world, umpires – and of course, softball fans.
