The Canada Cup committee is proud to host, once again, Special Olympics softball as part of the 2009 line-up of tournaments.
The Canada Cup Special Olympics Friendship Division tournament will run four of the nine days of the Canada Cup, with the Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies happening on Wednesday, July 8. The Canada Cup International Women's Fastpitch Tournament runs July 4 - 12 at Softball City in Surrey with the Canada Cup Special Olympics Friendship Division running July 8 - 12.
A round robin tournament commences on Thursday, July 9 with winners advancing to the play-offs culminating in the championship game. The Canada Cup Special Olympics Friendship Division Championship Game will take place Sunday, July 12, as will the Futures, Showcase and Women's Canada Cup Championship Games.
Special Olympics is an international year-round program of sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Over one million athletes in 50+ countries train and compete in 26 Olympic-type summer and winter sports. Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Special Olympics provides opportunities for people with mental disabilities to develop fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy as they participate in the sharing of gifts and friendship with their families and community.
Special Olympics softball is part of the Canada Cup for the twelfth time.
